English Language Proficiency

ifps English language entry pre-requisites

All classes on the Foundation Programme are taught in English. It is essential that prospective students have a good command of English language. Poor ability in English can lead to academic failure and some social isolation.

The English syllabus is especially developed for ifps students. (See page ifps English)

Prospective students must provide a recent IELTS, TOEFL or other recognised test results showing they have reached the required standard for entry. Where students have not reached the required standard they will be recommended to take an intensive English language course.

The preferred English language courses are -

Clydebank College, Glasgow - ESOL Unit
University of Glasgow, Language Centre, English as a Foreign Language Unit
Edinburgh School of English (Private Language School)

IELTS

A score of 5.5 in the IELTS system is regarded as the minimum score for students joining the 12 month
programme of study. Students seeking entry to the 15 or 9 month programmes must have a score of 6.0 with Reading 5.5 and Writing 5.5 or above. Please note that some medical faculties may require ifps candidates for medicine to present an IELTS test result.
